First Aid
We were delighted to have Ciarán attend the school this week and give the children from 3rd-6th Class a CPR Tutorial. Ciarán is a trained expert in the area and his lessons are always so informative, relevant and interactive.
The lessons focused on the children's knowledge of how to contact the emergency services by calling 999 or 112. Ciaran explained what CPR is, the function of the heart and why CPR so important to help keep someone who has been hurt or is sick alive.
Scene safety was emphasised: the importance of assessing a situation quickly for safety if you see someone injured. Ciaran spoke about calling for help and how to recognise if someone is breathing and conscious and whether or not CPR needs to be started.
Each child took a turn of administering CPR on the CPR adult and baby mannequins.
A discussion was then had on how to use and why we use a defibrillator, an AED.
The children were reminded where our closest defibrillator/AED is located: at our school.
We are very grateful to Ciarán for his time and knowledge passed on.
Well done all.
