Maths Week Celebrations
This week we celebrated Maths Week here at St. Joseph’s N.S. Thank you to Ms. Griffin for organising the events throughout the week. Great fun was had by both pupils and staff. Some of the events included an estimation station, Maths Eyes tasks at home, a Maths trail around our school community(which is accessible here on our website), peer Maths tasks across classes, Maths online quizzes, a trip for 5th and 6th class to the Helix at DCU for a Maths event with Mathemagician Andrew Jeremy and concluded today with a Maths themed whole school assembly where lots of spot prizes were awarded. A principal’s Maths challenge took place today in all classes and among all staff members. Each class had to estimate the number of sweets in a tub of Celebrations and estimate the number of each sweet variety too. Well done to 1st and 2nd class who won the tub of sweets and to Ms. Murray who won the staff competition for the closest estimates. The Celebrations estimation document will be added to this post if you wish to try it out at home. We also completed some Maths challenge tasks today at assembly focused on pupils reasoning of their answers. This PowerPoint will also be added to this post if you wish to try some of the tasks (from the Oide Maths resources hub) at home.
