Official Opening of Our Outdoor Classroom and Sensory & Wellbeing Garden and Raising of our Amber Flag

26th Jun 2024

On Tuesday the 25th of June we officially opened our outdoor classroom and sensory and wellbeing garden as well as raising our recently achieved Amber Flag.

We came together as a whole school community with members of our Parents Association, Board of Management and Representatives from Moyglare Stud who had also assisted with development of this space.

Our student council members led the ceremony by welcoming everyone and explaining the journey and rationale of this outdoor space. They thanked the Parents Association both past and present who organised fundraising events over the years which funded the development of this space. All of our pupils had learned the song 'What a Wonderful World' which we sang together, reminding us that this garden is a space of connection with the natural world around us but is also a space of connection with others, friendships and wellbeing. Junior and senior infants recited a lovely poem about a seed growing into a flower. This poem represented the journey of plant life we have witnessed this year in our garden.

Furthermore, they thanked Moyglare Stud who funded the array of sensory plants and made and installed the plant boxes which brings the garden space to life. Following the cutting of the ribbon at the front of the garden by the student council everyone made their way on a walk through the garden.

We then assembled at the flag poles at the front of the school where the members of the Amber Flag committee spoke about our Amber Flag journey which focused on promoting positive mental health. They also shared a little bit about the activities and events of Wellbeing Week. The flag was then raised by the committee members and is flying proudly at the front of the school.
