Whole School Assembly 18th April 2024

18th Apr 2024

Today we began our assembly with the choir and the pupils singing 'We come to you Lord Jesus'.  Then the junior and Senior Infants blew us away with their knowledge about Alexander Graham Bell, a famous inventor.  Infants informed us that Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone and patented it.  Next they had a question and answer quiz that amazed the whole school with their fountain of knowledge.  The pupils took inspiration from Bell's invention and used Lego to create their own inventions.  A talking flower was created so you could talk to it when you are lonely, a robot doctor was invented so you could always be looked after, there was a playhouse on wheels, the worlds best zoo and a human launcher so that you will never be late for school again!

The Student Council then showed everyone our Beebots and explained how we use them.  The Student Council had created a track and programmed the Beebot to move from the start of the track to the end of the track.  I think everyone will enjoy using the Beebots as there was great excitement watching them move around today.

Mrs Madden and the Student Council also introduced Autism Awareness and Acceptance Week.  We listened to the story 'Abilities and me' which was read by Danny and we listened to how we are all different and unique.  The Student Council displayed the poster they designed which shows our core values in St Joseph's - Respect, Kindness, Honesty and Inclusion.  This will be on display in our school corridor.

The Green School Committee visited every classroom last week to inform us about water conservation and Marine week which takes place this week.  Lucy Dalton was inspired by this and designed and wrote her own book about marine animals which includes facts.  She read an extract from her book to the whole school and showed us her illustrations.

Finally we celebrated the creativity of David in Senior Infants.  In his own free time, David made a new game for his class, which included characters and a set of instructions.  He told us how to play his game and I believe the Junior and Senior infants were excited to play the game at a later time.
